Dear Friends,
As all of you know the oil is STILL spewing out in the Gulf Of Mexico and we are still shut down. That's the bad news, the good news is that it has not yet reached us. The marsh ponds and the lakes that we normally fish are clean at this time. Our biggest concern now (besides the oil) is that hurricane season is upon us and it looks like we are going to have a very active season. If we get a big one that moves West of us, we could be real trouble.
Long term, no one seems to know or is willing to tell us, the affects that the oil will have on the Gulf itself. Huge schools of red fish spend their summers off shore and come into the main passes to spawn in the early spring and late summer. We just don't know.
All of our guides are working for local contractors so they are making a living, but the sadness in their faces is heart breaking. They are out there everyday in the middle of it all fighting for our way of life.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers and PLEASE write or call your congressman or senator and tell them this matters to you.
On a final note, on Tuesday, July 13th, ABC World News will broadcast live from our dock and film a town hall meeting here to be broadcast later. The live broadcast is at 6:30 pm Eastern/5:30 Central time.
We will keep you updated as much as we can. Thank you for all the calls and emails of encouragement.
